In 1976 Maria Adela’s son Daniel Adela, a lawyer in Argentina, became one of the 30,000 people abducted and disappeared by the military during in the late 70’s - early 80’s. When Daniel disappeared his mother organized the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo movement. Since the dictatorship, people like Maria continue to march at the Plaza de Mayo every Thursday afternoon to demand justice and to preserve the memory of the 30,000 disappeared while raising awareness for other humanitarian crises around the world.
